What is this Course?

The course provides students with a solid introduction to the Irish legal system. It is endorsed by the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEX), a professional association of over 20,000 chartered legal executive lawyers, paralegals and other legal practitioners in Ireland, England and Wales. For more than 50 years, they have been offering a pathway to a flexible career in law. Many students successfully pursue roles as legal executives in Ireland, while others use the qualification as a pathway to becoming a solicitor.

The Certificate is the first part of a two-stage diploma programme. In Stage 1, students graduate with a Certificate in Professional Legal Studies. When successful, students are eligible to progress to Stage 2 of the programme: the Diploma in Professional Legal Studies.

Each Unit comprises approximately four to six lectures, while the Saturday workshops provide an opportunity to review and discuss each unit in further depth. There is a two-hour exam for each unit. Students may access our library and online journals during their time at Independent College.

COURSE DURATION

We run this 20-week course twice a year: Spring and Autumn. The course is delivered via three-hour lectures delivered one day a week from 6.30pm to 9.30pm. There are approximately four Saturday workshops within the 20-week period, which run from 9.30am to 12.30pm. A Saturday revision class is also held for each subject.
